We are proud of the hard work and accomplishments of our leadership, staff, students and families. Wylandville received this recognition in part because its third and fourth graders consistently ranked among the highest when it comes to state math and reading scores.
Wylandville Elementary School is Canon-McMillan’s smallest elementary school with a student population of approximately 200 students and 22 staff members. The school is situated on a large piece of land in North Strabane Township on Route 519 in the country side near Eighty Four, PA.
Wylandville has achieved exceptional scores on the Pennsylvania System of State Assessment (PSSA) earning the distinguished Keystone Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Education since 1994. The Pittsburgh Business Times ranked Wylandville’s third graders 5th out of 325 schools reported in 2007 and SchoolDigger ranked Wylandville #5 out of 1724 schools in 2008 based on PSSA scores.
These recognitions are a result of the fine staff, students, and families that comprise Canon-McMillan as they work together in collaboration. With an average of 20 years teaching experience, our teachers are proud of the many accolades our school has earned and focus their instruction daily on the Pennsylvania State Standards and Anchors. Students enjoy many grade level activities such as Science Day, Constitution Day, and Earth Day.
Differentiation is widely used to provide enrichment and modification for success for all students.
In addition to the core curriculum of Reading, Math and Science, students meet weekly for Physical Education, Art, Music and Library classes. A vocal music and instrumental program is offered to fourth grade students as third grade children learn to play the recorder.
In order for a school to maintain their success, a strong relationship with parents is essential. Wylandville has a very active Parent-Faculty Association (PFA) that coordinates closely with the staff. The PFA sponsors monthly cultural programs for the students, plans holiday parties and collaborates with the staff to provide students with orientations, field trips and field day.
