Wylandville Elementary School is one of Canon-McMillan’s four elementary buildings with a student population of approximately 220 kindergarten through fourth grade students. The school is situated on a large parcel of land in North Strabane Township on Route 519 in Eighty Four, PA.
Our learning community is dedicated to the success of every student. We are committed to each child as an individual, helping them to grow and learn in a positive and encouraging environment. We host multiple artist residencies annually with our most recent collaborations with the Rural Arts Collaborative and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust; Gateway to the Arts. Our students have access to an innovative learning space we call our Living Classroom. This 15 x 30 foot redwood greenhouse is used to explore STEAM concepts.
Our positive behavior support plan encourages our students to “Make their MARK”, with our theme inspired by the work of Peter Reynolds and his book, The Dot. Students can relate and react positively to situations and they strive to achieve positive response through our dot reward program.
Differentiation and high quality instruction in all content areas ensures that each child is provided enrichment and modifications when needed.
A major initiative in our building is our computer science immersion program called Code to the Future, CTTF. This program will help prepare our students for the 21st Century where digital literacy, interpersonal and intrapersonal competencies are a must for individual success. We are committed to collaboratively (staff, administration, parents and students) working to integrate various learning experiences that leverage our students’ abilities to create and innovate.
In order for our school to maintain success, a strong relationship with parents is essential. Wylandville has a very active Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) that coordinates closely with the staff. The PTO sponsors monthly cultural programs for the students, plans holiday parties and collaborates with the staff to provide students with orientations, field trips and field day.
