Muse Elementary School is one of seven elementary schools in the Canon- McMillan School District. It is a neighborhood school in a small, rural town setting, twenty miles south of Pittsburgh, PA.
The 216 students are in nine heterogeneous regular education classrooms, kindergarten through fourth grade. The staff and the community are committed to working in partnership to provide a positive educational environment for all of our students. In addition to the ambitious instruction, our students attend special subjects, such as: vocal music, instrumental music, art, library, and physical education. Muse has a hands-on Science program at all grade levels, an Accelerated Reader program for grades 1-4, and an after school tutoring program for grades 1-4. Computers and technology are available in every classroom (an average of one computer for every four students). We also promote an effective Character Education program,
stressing the core values of good character.
Muse has a very active PFA (Parent-Faculty Association). They sponsor 5-6 educational programs a year. They also plan other activities such as: seasonal parties, Fall and Spring Book Fairs, Family Bingo Night, Egg Roll, Big Guy Night, VIP Breakfast, and Market Day (once a month). Their dedication to the students helps enrich the learning experience.
Excellence in education is the standard and mutual respect is expected at Muse. We pride ourselves on past and present academic performances. Our staff strives to improve student achievement through differentiated instruction, diagnostic assessment, and the utilization of proven instruction strategies.
