Reading:  Scott Foresman Pennsylvania Edition

1. Each week our students will follow a sequential comprehensive sequence of language arts skills. 
2. These include Comprehension Target Skills i.e. Predicting, Character, Author’s Purpose, Setting, and  Drawing Conclusions. 
3. Weekly Phonics Target Skills will be incorporated into Weekly Spelling and Vocabulary Word Lists and Story Selections. 
4. Grammar Usage and Sentence Mechanics skill are also introduced.
5. The students will also use the five step writing process each week to complete relevant writing prompts.

MATH: Pennsylvania Mathematics, Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley

1. The second graders begin with a review of the basic addition and subtraction facts.
2. As the year progresses, the students will learn to regroup 2 and 3-digit numbers in addition and subtraction.
3. The students also learn geometry and fractions, data and graphs, measurement, place value, time, and money.

SCIENCE: Science Matters

1. The second graders utilize the hands-on Science Matters kits.
2. The three units are: Soils, Changes, and the Life Cycle of the Butterfly.

SOCIAL STUDIES: A Kid’s Guide to American States: Pennsylvania, The Keystone State

1. Our second graders will be learning about the state of Pennsylvania.
2. The students will also do a unit on map skills.

WELLNESS:

1. In collaboration with the physical education teacher, the students receive instruction on wellness, nutrition, and exercise.
